what to know
The Nuggets have enjoyed a four-game homestand, but they will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Miami Heat on Wednesday at 7:30 pm at Kasia Center. The Heat suffered a loss in their last contest and will look to turn the tables on the Nuggets, who will come away with a win.
Last Monday, even if it wasn’t an impressive performance, Denver defeated the Raptors 125-119. The win came thanks to a strong surge that started at 2:59 of the second quarter, when the Nuggets were facing a 64-42 deficit.
Nikola Jokic continued his habit of posting insane stat lines, dropping a triple-double on 35 points, 17 rebounds and 12 assists. He has been in the news recently, scoring 25 or more points the last five times. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamal Murray, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 12 assists.
The Heat came into Sunday’s matchup with a massive edge in the spread, but that advantage could go to their head given the outcome. They fell just behind Washington by a score of 110-108. The Heat could not get any break and have now suffered three consecutive defeats.
The Heat struggled to get their act together and finished the game with only 20 assists. They were demolished by their opponents in that department as the Wizards racked up 35 assists.
Denver has been playing great lately: they have won nine of their last ten games, leading to a huge 45-20 record on the road this season. As for Miami, their loss dropped their record to 35–29.
This is a contest where possession numbers are likely to be a big factor: The Nuggets have not given the ball away easily this season, averaging just 11.8 turnovers per game (they rank fifth overall in turnovers per game. Are). However, it’s not like the Heat struggle in that department as they are averaging just 12.1 turnovers per game. Given these competing forces, it will be interesting to see how they clash.
The Nuggets didn’t have much breathing room in their game against the Heat in their last matchup two weeks ago, but they still came away with a 103-97 win. The rematch may be a bit difficult for the Nuggets as the team will not have the home-court advantage this time. We’ll see if the change in venue makes any difference.
