Having served as the named inspiration for the beloved franchise for decades the Legend of ZeldaThe main princess of the series is finally getting her own game. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of WisdomThe game, which will be released on Nintendo Switch on September 26, gives Zelda her own hero’s journey after Link’s disappearance. But sadly, it doesn’t give her a sword of her own.
Players are clamoring for Hyrule’s favorite princess to take the lead role zelda has been included in games for years now, or at least playable in games such as Tears of the stateThe excitement over Zelda’s triumph over X was immediately evident when Nintendo announced the game during one of its Direct presentations on Tuesday. (Sample post: “I make no excuses for the person I will become once I play as Princess Zelda.”)
In echo of wisdomShe is tasked with rescuing Hyrule’s inhabitants, including Link, who are becoming trapped in mysterious rifts. To save them, Zelda teams up with a fairy named Tri; armed with the Tri Rod, Zelda can create replicas of environmental objects and enemies called Echoes to solve puzzles and fight monsters.
For example, in the game’s trailer, Zelda learns how to mimic a table. She can then create an echo of that table anywhere, allowing the player to create stairs and bridges made out of tables. Tears of the state‘Because of her Ultrahand and Fuse abilities, Echoes’ possibilities seem quite open; the trailer shows how she learns to create boxes, beds, stones, and blocks of water so she can get past potential obstacles. The echoes of the monsters become allies who fight alongside her.
echo of wisdom has a visual style similar to the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening from 2019 but appears to be in keeping with the experimental nature of the series’ most recent releases, Tears of the stateDuring the presentation, longtime producer Eiji Aonuma said that the team wanted to “create a new gameplay style that breaks conventions seen in the past with other top-down games”. As for how many Echoes there are, Aonuma says he hasn’t counted them all yet.
Nintendo is also releasing a gold “Hyrule Edition” Nintendo Switch Lite alongside the game.
