PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin walked off the stage after being asked about his contract status following the team’s playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills on Monday.
Speaking to media members after Pittsburgh’s 31–17 loss to the Bills at Highmark Stadium, Tomlin was asked by a reporter, “Mike, you have one year left on your contract…” Tomlin, who has one year left on his current contract One year left to deal, walked away Before the question is over. This was the last question asked by the media members.
Over the weekend, Pro Football Talk reported that Tomlin would decide on his coaching future after the season.
In 2021, Tomlin signed a contract extension with Pittsburgh that will last through the 2024 season. He is currently the longest-tenured NFL head coach following the departures of Bill Belichick and Pete Carroll this offseason.
In 17 years with the Steelers, Tomlin has never had a losing season. Under Tomlin’s leadership, the team has made the playoffs 11 times and won the Super Bowl once. The Steelers have not won a playoff game since the 2016 season.
According to the Associated Press, Steelers defensive captain Cam Heyward said after Monday’s loss, “Every player out there would be nothing without Mike T.” “Without Mike T, this group wouldn’t even be able to make the playoffs… I wouldn’t want to play for any other coach.”
As the team’s coach, Tomlin has an overall record of 181–110–2. He is 8-10 in the playoffs. On Tuesday, Tomlin reportedly told the team he plans to coach the Black and Gold in 2024.
