PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The Sixers have joined with the Phillies to ban Howard Eskin from their facilities after the longtime Philadelphia sports broadcaster and radio personality allegedly lied about a Unwanted advances toward Aramark employee at Citizens Bank Park.
A 76ers spokesman said Wednesday that the team will not allow Eskin into its training complex in Camden, New Jersey “until further notice,” and has requested that the Wells Fargo Center not allow Eskin access for team activities in the near future.
The Sixers are tenants of the Wells Fargo Center, whose lease expires in 2031. The team hopes to Create a new region in Philadelphia’s Market East neighborhood.
Later on Wednesday, a spokesperson for Comcast Spectacor, which owns the Wells Fargo Center, said they “respect” any decision the Sixers make regarding Eskin.
“The Sixers control admissions and credentials for all of their events, including games and activities at Wells Fargo Center,” the statement said. “We respect any decisions they make regarding Mr. Eskin. We became aware of the incident involving Mr. Eskin yesterday and will continue to monitor the situation.”
Aramark announced Tuesday night that it had learned one of its employees had been subjected to unwanted harassment by Eskin at the ballpark. The company said it immediately began an investigation, confirmed the allegations and worked closely with 94WIP parent company Audacy and the Phillies to protect the employee.
In a statement, Audacy said it learned of an “unwanted kiss by Howard Eskin to an Armarec employee at Citizens Bank Park.”
“The safety of our employees is of paramount importance, and when we learned of an unwelcome behavior by an Audacy employee toward an Aramark employee, we immediately began an investigation, which confirmed the allegations,” Aramark said in a statement.
Eskin did not return a phone call from CBS News Philadelphia.
Audacy said Eskin’s broadcast will continue on WIP, but not this weekend because it has nothing to do with the incident at Citizens Bank Park.
CBS News Philadelphia reached out to the Philadelphia Flyers and the Eagles. The Flyers have not yet responded by publication. The Eagles said they are monitoring the situation.
Eskin, 73, has been a sports media personality in Philadelphia for decades. In 1986, he helped launch WIP’s first sports talk show and has broadcast nearly 7,000 shows on the radio station.
Eskin has also worked at several TV stations in Philadelphia, including two stints at KYW-TV (now CBS News Philadelphia) in 1982 and 1992. Eskin is currently a contributor to Fox29’s Eagles coverage, while he is also the sideline reporter for the Eagles on WIP.
Eskin hosts a sports talk radio show on WIP on Saturday mornings.
Eskin’s son, Spike Eskin, rejoined the station in WIP’s afternoon drive slot earlier this year after working as program director at WFAN-FM in New York.
In a post on the X, also known as Twitter, on Wednesday, Spike Eskin wrote, “I do my best to be a good person. Whether you like me (some people) or dislike me (some people), I would hope and expect that it would be based on what I do and say, and how I act. I’ll see you on the radio today and on the late night podcast. I appreciate your support as always.”
