Garrison Brown, son of “Sister Wives” star Janelle and Kody Brown, died Tuesday at his home in Flagstaff, Arizona. He was 25 years old.
“Cody and I are saddened to announce the death of our beautiful boy, Robert Garrison Brown. “He was a bright spot in the lives of all who knew him,” Brown wrote on Instagram Tuesday. “His loss will leave a hole in our lives so huge that it will take our breath away. We ask that you please respect our privacy and join us in honoring his memory.”
Flagstaff police said in a statement Diversity Garrison died “as a result of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.”
Garrison has appeared on the hit TLC reality series since it first aired on the network in 2010. At the time of its initial broadcast, Brown was a child. The series chronicles his father’s polygamous lifestyle in Utah, where Cody has multiple wives. Janelle was married to Kody until their divorce last year.
As he grew up, Garrison showed interest in enlisting in the armed services. While he wanted to join the military, Garrison ended up signing up for the National Guard — eventually moving out of his parents’ house and living in his own home after the pandemic.
“We are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic loss of Garrison Brown,” a TLC spokesperson said in a statement. “We offer our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the Brown family at this difficult time.”
After Janelle spiritually married Cody in 1993, the couple had six children: Madison, Logan, Garrison, Gabrielle, Hunter, and Savannah. In December 2022, Janelle announced that she and Cody had separated.
Over the years, Kody’s relationship with his children had become strained, which Jenelle later expressed in a confessional interview, where she lamented her children’s poor relationship with their father.
“I am concerned about the mental health of my boys. Gabriel feels everything very deeply. But he’s also that kid who doesn’t say anything,” she said, adding that Garrison “just seems angry or sad, like, he’s not as cheerful as he used to be.”
In a subsequent acknowledgment that accompanied the airing of an episode in May 2023, Kody acknowledged that a rift had developed between him and his children, expressing his hope that “in time” they would be able to “get over it.” ” ,
“I think and hope that with time we will get over this and be back with each other and be safe. Right now, there aren’t really any open doors for Gabe and Garrison. They are not ready to join me,” he shared.
