PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – It was Inauguration Day pushed back a day in Philadelphia, but the day many have been waiting for for months has finally arrived. The Phillies released a familiar lineup on Friday, with designated hitter Kyle Schwarber batting leadoff.

Despite the team’s success and the 31-year-old’s well-above average on-base percentage (OBP), Schwarber remains a polarizing subject among some in his lineup spots.
Last season, Schwarber had a .345 OBP with 34 home runs in 108 games. According to Baseball-Reference, his OBP was 23 points above league average. The debate between batting average and OBP will continue.
Schwarber hit .205 last season and hit .197 overall, but his final OBP (.343) was 21 points above league average. OBP essentially measures how often a player plays Not there. outs, while batting average does not include walks or hits-by-pitch.
