Now we are probably entering the final phase.
Nintendo held its latest Direct showcase, announcing video games coming to the Switch console throughout the rest of this year and into early 2025.
While this Direct didn’t contain many details about the highly anticipated Hollow Knight sequel, “Silksong,” it did contain a number of other updates and new titles – including a few surprises.
The Switch, which was first released in 2017, is likely reaching its final months as a current Nintendo system, according to an announcement made by the video game company this spring.
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said in a post on X (the social media platform formerly known as Twitter) in May that the company would “make an announcement about a successor to the Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year.”
Here’s a look at some of the biggest announcements and what else is coming to the Nintendo Switch.
‘The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’
Eiji Aonuma, video game designer and producer of the “Legend of Zelda” series, made a surprise announcement.
In the upcoming new title, “The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom,” Link has disappeared, and it’s up to Princess Zelda to save his kingdom, with players taking control of Zelda for the first time. Sadly, there’s no sword for the Legend’s princess, but she will get a Tri-Rod, with which she can create items and “echoes” while solving puzzles.
According to the announcement, the styling of “Echoes of Wisdom” is similar to the “Link’s Awakening” remake for the Switch (2019), and the battle system will be different from other “Zelda” games.
Around the time of the new game’s release, a Hyrule Edition will also arrive for the Nintendo Switch Lite.
