Supernatural fans officially have some details on the highly anticipated follow-up to Tim Burton’s 1988 cult classic, “Beetlejuice.”
According to a brand new movie poster from Warner Bros. Pictures shared on X on Thursday, the upcoming horror comedy film, a sequel to the original film, will be appropriately titled “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.”
The repetition in the title is a reference to the titular character played by Michael Keaton in both the 1988 film and the upcoming sequel. In the original film, Beetlejuice could be summoned from the Neverworld by repeating his name three times.
The top of the poster reads, “The wait is almost over.”
Below that are two hands holding ticker tape marked with the numbers “09, 06, 24”, indicating the release date of September 6, 2024. An ominous beetle is seen crawling across the top of the tape.
“Dare you say it again. #BeetleJuice #BeetleJuice – in theaters only September 6,” Warner Bros. Pictures wrote in its post on X.
Burton shared a photo on Instagram last November that hinted that shooting on the “Beetlejuice” sequel had been completed.
“Thank you to everyone involved,” he wrote at the time.
The original “Beetlejuice” revolved around a group of ghosts tasked with scaring away newcomers to a haunted house. The Ghosts are led by Betelgeuse (Keaton), a mischievous and fiery ghost who works as an “independent bio-exorcist”.
The film also stars Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Jeffrey Jones, Catherine O’Hara, and Winona Ryder.
The sequel will once again star Keaton, Ryder and O’Hara, along with newcomers Jenna Ortega, Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci and Willem Dafoe.
