LAS VEGAS (FOX5/Gray News) – A mysterious monolith was discovered at a wildlife sanctuary north of Las Vegas this weekend.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said their search and rescue team discovered a strange structure near Gas Peak in the Desert National Wildlife Refuge. Gas Peak is one of the highest peaks in the area around Las Vegas.
Las Vegas police used the appearance of the monolith to remind hikers to prepare themselves before heading into the wilderness. This includes telling someone where they are going, checking the weather ahead of time, and bringing extra food, water, and lights.
This is not the first time mysterious monoliths have appeared in the US. In 2020, a monolith was discovered in the Utah desert, another was found at the summit of a trail in California and a third was found near Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Other plantings have been found around the world, including in Romania and a World Heritage site in Turkey, although the Turkish government discovered this was merely a sham.
Most of the monoliths were destroyed or removed shortly after their discovery, with some vandals expressing concerns about the impact this would have on people visiting to see the oddities.
