Watch out Hollywood! Maxine Minx has come to town to be a star, and heaven help those who cross her path. Presumably, this also involves a mysterious killer who has plans on him.
A24 has finally released the trailer maxxinThe final nail in the proverbial coffin of its hit and acclaimed x The horror trilogy from filmmaker Ty West.
Last two installments, x and its prequel PearlStar Mia Goth proved to be a tour de force showcase when they were released back to back in 2022 and re-established West as an avid filmmaker in the horror community.
maxxinWritten and directed by West, the story takes place approximately six years after the events of x and focuses on aspiring star Maxine, played by Goth, the sole survivor of that bloody night. In mid-1980s Hollywood, Maxine is now Maxine Minx, a full-fledged porn star (and is exactly what she looks like in the trailer) whose dreams of being a true actress are within reach.
As the trailer reveals, Minx is auditioning for her break, while a mysterious killer known as The Night Stalker is murdering women in Hollywood. “I can handle myself,” says Minx, “and we know she can, but can she also handle this trail of blood that threatens to expose her horrific past?”
“The past is not over with you. It’s going to be knocking on your door,'” says a private detective played by Kevin Bacon.
Visitors get the full 1980s experience – smooth streets with steaming hot air, neon-lit nights – with Hollywood touches like Hollywood backlots and sound stages. We also get a glimpse of Haley as Minx’s streetwise friend, Michelle Monaghan as a pair of detectives, Bobby Cannavale, Elizabeth Debicki as a producer/director, as well as Moses Sumney, Lily Collins, and Giancarlo Esposito , which is the climax of the trailer. A series of narrations by “Maxine” and scenes of violence and carnage.
A24 film is releasing on 5th July. It is rated R and will have a running time of 103 minutes. West produced it with Jacob Jaffke, Kevin Turen, Harrison Kreis and Goth.
“You’re a bullshit movie star,” Minx says to herself in the trailer. We already know this is true of Goth, now we have to see if it’s true of Maxine.
