In many ways, Lexi is one of them. Since she took the golf field so many years ago, fans have seen her every triumph, heartbreak, struggle and success from the front row. She was one of golf’s original teen superstars, a prodigy that adults and kids alike gravitated toward because Thompson was someone they wanted to support, someone they identified with.
She has taken on the responsibility of women’s golf, never considering it a burden but rather a privilege to do so. It is the little things Lexi has done that have had the most lasting impact – signing every hat, glove, flag and ball given to her over the past nearly two decades and fulfilling every person’s request at the autograph alley, no matter how good or bad. Funny thing is, she still signs autographs under the name Alexis Thompson, not Lexi, an autograph she has used since the first US Women’s Open so many years ago.
Her love and respect for her fans was something Lexi’s mother instilled in her from a very young age, often telling her that it was her duty to make at least one person’s day better every time she left the house. And that’s what has driven Thompson throughout her career, especially as she’s pushed the boundaries in golf. Lexi is fully aware of the heights her LPGA Tour success has brought her to and she takes every opportunity to be a role model for those around her.
