Lana Del Rey’s ethereal and dreamy song style rocked the Coachella stage on Friday night as she headlined the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival. But first, she made quite an epic entrance to start things off.
She, accompanied by her backup singers and dancers, rode up to the stage standing on the back of a motorcycle with “Jealous Girl” playing repeatedly over the speakers. Best entrance ever at a festival? We think so. The singer was all smiles as she opened the show with “Without You.”
The singer, known for her dreamy, sultry and sad songs, is almost synonymous with the famous festival – she even has a song called “Coachella – Woodstock in My Mind”. However, this is her first year in the spotlight, exactly a decade after her last Coachella appearance on the outdoor theater stage in 2014.
The singer looked radiant on stage in a bright blue dress, with her hair flowing in the wind throughout the night. The scenes on the screen alternated between black, white and color and showed scenes of palm trees, crashing waves and videos from his career.
Although not as much was displayed on the screen for those in the back, his stage had three tall white columns, winding stairs to the side, and two balconies from which he wowed the audience.
It’s hard to keep track of how many hits there are in Del Rey’s discography, which consists of nine albums. Their set was reminiscent of them all – filled with “Summertime Sadness,” “Cherry,” “Pretty When You Cry” and “Born to Die.” They’re not the usual hard-hitting, bass heavy, catchy songs that are featured in most Coachella sets, but hardcore fans and casual listeners were still jamming throughout the night.

The longer the singer played, the more confident she looked on stage. She often limited how much she would sing (opting to reach the microphone for some verses so that the audience’s voice could be captured), which was frustrating because she had such a good voice. Despite this, he gave his fans the dreamy sounds they wanted. His voice particularly stood out on “Ride”, as he sustained the words “I just ride” in the chorus. He also harmonized with the backup singers at the beginning of “The Grants” before taking over the remainder of the song.
At times his backup singers were a heavy influence on him, especially on “Did You Know There’s a Tunnel Under the Ocean.” He received a lot of applause from the crowd.
He even paid tribute to his fellow Coachella performer, singing a cover of Sublime’s “Doin’ Time”, which was released on his album “Norman F—— Rockwell!” Was shown in.
Del Rey’s set was filled with special guests. They first welcomed Jon Batiste on stage to play their collaboration “Candy Necklace”. Before spinning on the pole, she sang while sitting on top of a piano, which sent the crowd wild. Later, Del Rey allowed Batiste to take control of the song and they began advertising the lyrics.
The headliner said, “Sometimes you need someone else’s spirit to walk with you, and that’s always Jon Batiste.”
Her next special guest needs no introduction: 2022 Coachella headliner Billie Eilish joined Del Rey on stage to sing her hit “Ocean Eyes.” They continued with a duet of “Video Games,” which was the perfect song to match her heavenly vocals.
Although they don’t have any songs together, Eilish has been a big fan of Del Rey for years. In a 2023 Interview magazine interview, Eilish shared that Ray was her first phone’s lock screen and that she sang the headliner’s songs during a talent show.
“This is the voice of our generation,” Del Rey said of the two-time Oscar winner.
This was Eilish’s third consecutive year performing at Coachella – she headlined the festival in 2022 and joined Labrinth on stage as a special guest during their 2023 set.
Producer and songwriter friend Jack Antonoff also joined her on stage for “Hope Is a Dangerous Thing for a Woman Like Me to Have”.
They concluded their set with their hit song “Young and Beautiful” from the film “The Great Gatsby” accompanied by an exciting fireworks display.
2024 has been a very exciting year for Del Rey. In addition to headlining Coachella both weekends, she will release her 10th studio album “Lasso” in September.
