The current high school rivalry has just added the strangest chapter yet.
Jordan Fouse and Isis France have faced off eight times since March 18, 2022, each winning four matches. It was no surprise when they wrestled for ninth place at the 2024 Junior National Duals in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Both attended high school in Pennsylvania despite being from different states. France is from Phoenix, Arizona and attended Wyoming Seminary in Kingston, while Fouse is from Roaring Spring and attended Bishop McCort in Johnstown.
Fouse represented Pennsylvania Blue and France represented Arizona when they faced off at 140 pounds. Each had three wins entering their first round match of the Gold Bracket.
France scored first with an ankle pick and a takedown seconds later that knocked Fouse unconscious and caused their heads to collide. Officials deemed the move unnecessarily brutal as France did not change levels, leading to their disqualification from the match and the tournament.
Neither of them wrestled for the remainder of the contest.
“I’d love to talk about it, but I don’t remember much,” Foose said. “I was knocked down right away and we were scrambling like we always do. We went after it and the next thing I remember is I was on the ground.
“She came up to me and hugged me and we’re all happy. I’m excited. I’ll probably see her in Fargo.”
Pennsylvania Blue beat Arizona 48-18 before losing to Colorado 36-33 in the next round. Fouse played mathematician because Pennsylvania could still win the team title. There was a delay due to computer problems, so the team scores were not visible on the monitor.
The board was eventually fixed, but they did not want to risk another computer malfunction.
“I wasn’t wrestling (against California), but I was doing math in a notebook on the stage,” Fouse said. “We had to score 27 points against California and beat them to make it to the finals. That was our goal and we accomplished it.”
Pennsylvania Blue defeated California Blue 47–23, and defeated Missouri Blue 38–31 in the final.
“We’ve built this team from the ground up,” Foose said. “We all just came together and we got through it together, through the acceptance (of girls wrestling in Pennsylvania), we’ve been through it. I think that’s what brought us together.”
