As if that feature wasn’t enough to last a lifetime, Holly has also released a collaborative track that is not included on the EP – a cover of Elvis Presley’s ‘Blue Moon’, recorded with Laura-Mae Carter of Blood Red Shoes. it was done. The pair, who are very good friends and live together, bonded over their shared love of Elvis. “The memorabilia in this house is quite unique,” smiles Holly. “We fit together really well, and really like each other’s music. We’d been thinking of doing an Elvis song together for years, and we really thought we could do it. It has such a beautiful atmosphere, it was written in the 20s and it really is a timeless piece of music. On the question of future collaboration, Holly does not rule out anything. “I’m really excited to work with people”, she says, “I’m quite a reclusive person, especially when it comes to writing, so I enjoy coming out of my cave sometimes and definitely more I want to do it.”
Just as ‘Time Is Forever’ represents a change in Holly’s music, her live show has also changed. But moving away from his usual routine brings excitement rather than nervousness. “I played the song with Lana in Hyde Park and it was the first time I played these songs live,” she says. “I really enjoyed it because I wasn’t behind my guitar the whole set. I’m looking at this as a brand new start, playing with some great musicians and adding new scenes. “I’m really turning it into something new.”
‘Time Is Forever’ represents an important moment for Holly and the change is evident, although the real impact of the record will only be felt on stage. “It’s quite strange because I haven’t toured since ‘Suburban House’ came out, so it doesn’t feel real yet,” she says. “I think it will feel a little more real when I play live, but it hasn’t really changed anything yet.” With a European tour in support of Matt Maltese, that moment couldn’t be far away.
Meanwhile, Holly is busy with her own label, Loving Memory – through which she released ‘Time Is Forever’ – and already has some new music in the pipeline. It seems like a prosperous time in Holly McVay’s world, and she’s not stopping for anything. “It feels good to stick to my own deadlines,” she says, “I like to be able to keep releasing things before things get boring for me. It’s just about songwriting for me. Have: I can go in any direction I want.
