Halsey has opened up about her health struggles, which she addresses in her new song “The End.”
The “Without Me” singer shared on Instagram on Wednesday that she has been diagnosed with both systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and a “rare” T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder beginning in 2022.
“Both conditions are currently in treatment or improving; and I will likely have both for the rest of my life,” he said.
According to the Lupus Foundation of America, SLE is the most common form of lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease that can cause inflammation and pain in any part of the body.
According to the National Institutes of Health, lymphoproliferative disorders refer to “a group of diseases characterized by uncontrolled production of lymphocytes that cause monoclonal lymphocytosis, lymphadenopathy, and bone marrow infiltration” that often occur in immunocompromised individuals. These can include leukemia and lymphoma.
“After a rough start, I slowly got everything under control with the help of amazing doctors. 2 years later, I feel better and I’m more grateful than ever to have turned to music,” Halsey continued. “I can’t wait to get back to where I belong: singing and screaming my heart out with all of you 🤍.”
The singer said in the post that she was sharing her illness following the “incredible amount of love” she received for her new song “The End,” which she released just a day earlier.
Halsey shared an emotional Instagram post on Tuesday, captioning it: “Long story short, I’m lucky to be alive. Long story short, I wrote an album. It starts with The End. Available now.”
The post marks the release of his new song, “The End.”
Halsey’s post also tagged the accounts of the Lupus Research Alliance and the Leukemia Research Center. According to a press release, they are making donations to two organizations, the M.D. and Lymphoma Society.
In the first video included in the post, Halsey said she feels like “an old lady” and that she’s giving herself “two more years to be sick.”
She said, “By the age of 30, I will be reborn and I will not fall ill, I will look very attractive and I will have a lot of energy and I will be able to repeat my 20s even at the age of 30.”
The next video shows Halsey wearing a mask and sitting in a medical facility, saying, “Today is day one of treatment.”
In the final video, the singer shared her experience during her treatment.
“The End” takes listeners on a journey through Halsey’s health struggles as she sings: “Now every two years a doctor says I’m sick / Pulls out a new bag of tricks / And then they give me all of it / First it was a pain in my brain, then a pain in my skeleton / And I don’t like to complain, but I’m sorry.”
“When I met you I said I’d never die / But the joke’s always been on me ’cause I’m racing against time,” Halsey sings at the end of the song. “And I know it’s not the end of the world / But can you pick me up at 8 o’clock / ‘Cause my treatment starts today.”
The singer, who has a 2-year-old son named Ender, has been open about her various health issues over the years, including experiencing endometriosis.
