(WJW) – Ian Gelder, the British actor best known for playing Kevan Lannister on the hit HBO series “Game of Thrones,” has died.
Gelder’s husband Ben Daniels confirmed the news on Instagram on Tuesday, saying Gelder died on Monday after battling bile duct cancer.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, bile duct cancer, or cholangiocarcinoma, “is a rare, aggressive form of cancer. “It most often affects adults over the age of 70 and by the time a healthcare provider diagnoses it, it has spread beyond the bile ducts.”
She died in December, just five months after being diagnosed with cancer, her husband said, sharing a photo of the couple smiling together.
“He was my absolute rock and we have been partners for over 30 years,” the post said in part. “If we weren’t together we would talk to each other every day.”
Gelder was 74 years old.
Daniels further said that Gelder was “the kindest, most generous spirited and loving human being.”
“He was an amazingly amazing actor and everyone who worked with him was touched by his heart and light,” the post said. “Honestly, I don’t know what I’d do without him.”
The photo was taken around Christmas, when Gelder was released from the hospital, Daniels said.
“He faced his terrible illness so bravely, without any self-pity. Sometimes. He was remarkable and will be greatly missed.”
Gelder is best known for roles in “Game of Thrones” and “Torchwood,” according to his IMDB page.
