Country star Darius Rucker was arrested on drug charges in Tennessee on Thursday, authorities said.
Nashville’s NBC affiliate WSMV reported, citing the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, that Rucker was arrested on two counts of simple possession or casualty exchange of a controlled substance and one count of violation of the Tennessee vehicle registration law. All three charges are misdemeanors.
Williamson County is about 20 miles south of Nashville.
Authorities did not comment on what drug or drugs Rucker allegedly possessed or what led to his arrest. The singer was released the same day after posting $10,500 bond.
Darius Rucker “is cooperating fully with authorities regarding the misdemeanor charges,” said his attorney, Mark Puryear.
Rucker’s former girlfriend, comedian Kate Quigley, was not sympathetic.
“Yeah. I heard that. All I can say is karma,” Quigley, written on x In a predictable reaction to the arrest.
A few hours later, Quigley posted a bikini selfie on the platform, captioning it, “The mood will be ruined when you hear your d-bag ex got arrested. #Karma.” The post has since been removed.
The Hootie & the Blowfish frontman was scheduled to perform at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville on Friday. Rucker has since been removed from the lineup on the music venue’s website.
NBC News contacted the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
