Comedian Chelsea Handler hosted the 2024 Critics’ Choice Awards on Sunday and took a dig at the widely criticized Golden Globes monologue by Joe Coy — who is her ex-boyfriend.
In her opening monologue, Handler joked that actors Harrison Ford and Robert De Niro were “totally rocking shows” and added that she would toss Martin Scorsese “like a little Italian meatball.”
He added, “Thanks for laughing at that. My writers wrote it.” The line drew massive applause from the crowd, which included several celebrities attending the Golden Globes last week.
This lie was an apparent reference to Coy, who threw his writers under the bus when a particular joke — that “Barbie” is a movie about a “plastic doll with a big boob” — ran with the audience at the Globes ceremony. Didn’t sit well.
“Yo, I got the show 10 days ago,” Coy said on the Golden Globes stage. “You want a perfect monologue? Yo, shut up. Slow down. I wrote some of these, and they’re the ones you’re laughing at.”
Handler and Coy dated from August 2021 to July 2022, which adds an extra layer to his search.
There were also reactions to several other jokes, including how many times Taylor Swift came on camera during her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s NFL games.
