Brandon McManus and the Jacksonville Jaguars have been sued by two women who allege McManus sexually assaulted them during the team’s overseas trip to London last year, according to court documents obtained by ESPN. The two women, identified as Jane Doe I and Jane Doe II, filed the suit Friday in Duval County (Florida) Circuit Civil Court.
McManus, 32, is accused of pressing himself against them and rubbing himself against them. The suit also alleges the Jaguars failed to supervise McManus and create a safe environment for employees serving the team. They are seeking more than $1 million and are demanding a jury trial.
According to the lawsuit, the women were working as flight attendants on a flight to London on Sept. 28, 2023. The Jaguars were in London for two weeks and were playing two consecutive games for the NFL’s international slate. The first game took place on Sunday, Oct. 1 at Wembley Stadium against the Atlanta Falcons.
The flight, an Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings charter flight, reportedly “quickly turned into a party.” McManus and other players disrespected the flight attendants’ personal space, and the veteran kicker is accused of attempting to coax three other flight attendants into joining the party by offering them $100 bills to inappropriately serve alcohol and dance.
Jane Doe I claims McManus tried to kiss her while she was seated because of turbulence and twice rubbed up against her while she was serving meals on the flight. Meanwhile, Jane Doe II claims McManus rubbed up against her while she was serving a second meal on the flight.
McManus’ lawyer, attorney Brett R. Gallaway, has denied the allegations.
“Clearly,” said Galloway. Washington Post), “These are completely fictitious and categorically false allegations made as part of a campaign to discredit and humiliate a talented and respected NFL player. We intend to aggressively defend Brandon’s rights and integrity and clear his name by showing what these claims really are — an extortion attempt.”
McManus entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Temple in 2013. He played nine seasons with the Denver Broncos before joining the Jaguars for the 2023 campaign. Jacksonville did not re-sign the veteran kicker, who signed a one-year deal with the Washington Commanders on March 14. The Commanders released the following statement on Monday:
“This morning we became aware of the civil lawsuit filed on May 24 against Brandon McManus. We take such allegations very seriously and are investigating the matter. We are in communication with the league office and Brandon’s representative, and will not have any further comment at this time.”
The NFL released a statement on the matter, saying “We are aware of the matter but will decline to comment.”
