Late Harry Kane goal gives Bayern Munich vital win over Leipzig
In the first match after it was announced that Thomas Tuchel would leave the club at the end of the season, Bayern Munich secured an important 2–1 win over RB Leipzig thanks to a Harry Kane brace.
The England captain’s late strike snatched all three points for the Bavarian giants and left Leverkusen top of the table with eight points. Meanwhile, Leipzig sit fifth, just one point off the Champions League places.
The hosts produced a largely lackluster first half, with Harry Kane hitting the post with a header and Leroy Sane missing a golden opportunity as he attempted to round the goalkeeper. Leipzig defended well during the first period but posed little threat to Manuel Neuer’s goal.
However, the second half was a very different affair as Leipzig looked the better side and threatened to take the lead on several occasions. Nevertheless, it was Kane who broke the deadlock with a comfortable finish from characteristic close range.
However, that didn’t work as Leipzig continued to press and were eventually rewarded with a heavily deflected equalizer from Benjamin Cesco. Just as hope seemed lost for the hosts, Kane once again stepped up and snatched the game away from Leipzig with a powerful half-volley into the bottom half.
The winner took his tally to 27 in the Bundesliga this season and gave Bayern Munich an unlikely but not impossible mountain to climb in this title race.
