Anya Taylor-Joy confirmed on Monday that she got married two years ago and it was no April Fool’s joke.
“The Queen’s Gambit” and “Super Mario Bros. Movie” star shared details about her Big Easy nuptials on Instagram, posting photos from the romantic day to celebrate her second wedding anniversary with her husband, musician Malcolm McRae.
“Two years ago, on April Fool’s, I secretly married my best friend in New Orleans,” the 27-year-old wrote. “The magic of that day is forever embedded in every cell of my being.”
He said, “Happy 2nd (1st) anniversary my love…you are the best.”
In a video clip, Taylor-Joy plays with her delicate veil and shows off her wedding gown, a custom Dior confection that she said was “beautifully embroidered with our love story.” A close-up of the dress showed a hummingbird embroidery on the corset. Her post also showed a plate of graphic desserts, which Taylor-Joy confirmed were “anatomically correct heart cakes.”
“Yes, I’m the vampire Lestat,” he quipped, referring to Anne Rice’s infamous literary character. She also shared a story on Instagram where she was eating heart cake while holding hands with her husband.
Actor and model Cara Delevingne and photographer Sebastian Faena were among the couple’s guests and were featured in photographs.
On Tuesday, McRae celebrated the anniversary with his Instagram entry, which featured a dramatic portrait of his wife sitting in front of a cathedral organ.
“I still love you and somehow I always will and somehow it will never end. “Happy two year anniversary (tomorrow), beautiful,” the “Daisy Jones and the Six” actor wrote.
According to People, Taylor-Joy and McRae first met at the premiere of their Netflix series “The Queen’s Gambit” in March 2021. A few days later, McRae, who performs with the band Peacock, wrote a song for the star and shared a clip. He is showcasing it on Instagram. The pair appeared together in public a year later, at a CAA pre-Oscar party in Los Angeles, about a month before their New Orleans wedding.
Rumors about Taylor-Joy’s marriage swirled in the summer of 2022 after Page Six reported that they quietly married in a courthouse ceremony before flying to Australia to film “Furiosa,” after she returned to the United States in a Was planning to host a big celebration.
Coincidentally, that April, the “Dune: Part Two” actor told British Vogue that in McRae, he “finally found someone who will happily sit in silence while I read. We’re basically 80 years old and 7 years old at the same time and it works really well.”
The couple threw a big bash for their friends in Venice last October, reportedly their official wedding ceremony, which was attended by Delevingne, Evan Ross, Miles Teller, Nicholas Hoult and Julia Garner. Taylor-Joy also wore a Dior Hummingbird gown on that occasion.
