A father trying to save his struggling son drowned in Lake Anna, Virginia, over the weekend, according to authorities.
Emergency crews responded about 1:10 a.m. Saturday to the Carrs Bridge Road area of ​​Lake Anna for a report of a child drowning, the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office said in a release.
Witnesses told authorities the child was struggling in the water and the father attempted to find or rescue his son. He was also seen struggling before disappearing from witnesses’ view. The sheriff’s office said several people entered the water in an attempt to find him but were unsuccessful.
Lake Anna is a large reservoir located in Virginia, approximately 60 miles north of Richmond and 55 miles east of Charlottesville.
The bodies of the father and son were recovered and both were pronounced dead at the scene. They were from another state and public identification has been withheld until their next of kin is notified. The father was 42 and the son was 14.
The investigation is still ongoing, but the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office said they do not suspect any foul play.
