(Gray News) – Benji Gregory, a former child actor best known for his role on the sitcom “Alf,” has died at the age of 46.
He played Brian Tanner in 101 episodes of the show which aired from ’86 to ’90.
Family members confirmed the news by sharing details of his death on Facebook.
According to his sister, Rebecca Hertzberg, Gregory was found in his car in Arizona on June 13 along with his dog, who also died.
He is believed to have gone to the bank the previous night, but did not get out of the car to do so.
“He fell asleep and died from the heat from the vehicle,” Hertzberg said on Facebook.
According to TMZ, Gregroy’s death certificate confirms that date. The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office told the media outlet that the official cause of death is still pending.
“Ben was a wonderful son, brother and uncle. He was fun to be with and made us laugh often. Even now, when I look through his things, I laugh at little videos or notes he left behind, and cry every now and then,” his sister said on Facebook.
Hertzberg told TMZ that his brother suffered from depression, bipolar disorder and had a sleep disorder that kept him awake for days.
“It’s taken us some time to accept and come to terms with this loss. We are not okay… but it’s comforting to know he is with his grandmother. Please pray for his sister, brother and parents,” the former actor’s cousin, Camille Jazzy Jenkins, said in a Facebook post.
