Even at 88, Jackie Marx has left no stone unturned.
“I can’t walk like I used to, but I’m still walking,” Marks said.
Marks is a die-hard Mavs fan who is a regular at the American Airlines Center.
She is a regular on the Jumbotron and is known for her towel twirling and a nickname given to her by the announcers: Mavs Grandma.
Marks’ first Mavs game was at Reunion Arena when the team was founded in 1980.
“Then I said, ‘We’re getting tickets for this,'” Marks said.
He has been a season ticket holder ever since and some of the Mavs memorabilia he has collected over the past 44 years is on display at his Dallas home.
He even has a Mavs-blue Mustang.
“I’ve enjoyed the sport since high school. In college, I played on my sorority team. I don’t think we ever won a game, but it was still fun to play,” Marks said.
Marks says he has only missed a few games this season and that being on the field is “exciting.”
It is also emotional.
She was there to watch the Mavs’ Game 3 loss on Wednesday night.
“I couldn’t believe we lost the game. If Luca hadn’t fouled out, we probably could have won it,” Marks said.
He said he would have to miss Friday’s game because his son was turning 50.
“I’d be on the telephone every five or ten minutes asking him how the Mavs were doing,” Marks said.
Hopefully the Mavs will give him another reason to celebrate.
