Some new members of the WNBA are set to make their debut Wednesday night when the Dallas Wings take on the Chicago Sky.
Angel Reese with the Sky likes the focus on the WNBA right now.
“I’m happy,” Reese said. I mean it’s hard to get tickets just for our families these days, so this is really cool. Seeing so many people supporting us and loving us in so many different ways, I’m excited to be a part of it.
The Wednesday night games were sellouts which brings in more revenue for the league.
Also, all the attention on young superstars like Jesse Sheldon of the Dallas Wings helps them secure lucrative endorsement deals.
Dallas Wings Jessie Sheldon said, “I think the women’s game is expanding and there’s more attention and eyes on us, so there are more opportunities for it.” “I think it’s pretty special even in college that something like this comes along.”
Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon also recognizes and appreciates the attention being paid to the women’s game.
“It’s moving in the right direction at the right time,” Weatherspoon said. “Everything is about timing. I think everyone is in an uproar and wondering why this didn’t happen before. Everything has its time and it is happening at the right time.”
New rising stars recognize that they would not be where they are today without those who came before them.
“The women before us deserve their flowers,” Reese said. “I have been watching these women for a very long time and I have always admired these women. Therefore, they deserve it. it’s been a long time coming. Charter flights have also been around for a long time and they have deserved it for a long time. So, obviously being able to be in the moment I take that for granted but they deserve it. “They have deserved this for a very long time.”
