(WJW) – Walmart just launched its largest private grocery brand in two decades, company officials announced in a media release Tuesday.
The new brand, called bettergoods, is described as “a new elevated experience that delivers quality, unique, chef-inspired food at an incredible value,” according to Walmart.
The company boasts that better-priced items cost between $2 and less than $15, but most items hitting shelves under the new brand cost less than $5.
Walmart plans to have at least 300 better items available in the coming months, but company officials say customers can already find items in its stores and online.
Bettergoods items will be available for pickup and same-day delivery, according to the media release.
The new brand consists of a range of products found in all grocery aisles, including frozen, dairy, beverages, snacks, soups, pasta and coffee, among others.
Items fall into three categories: “culinary experiences,” “plant-based,” and “made without,” the latter of which focuses on options for different diets.
Walmart executives pointed out that customers these days expect more from the private labels they find in stores.
“Bettergoods is more than just a new private brand. It is a commitment to our customers that they can enjoy unique culinary flavors at the incredible value that Walmart delivers,” Scott Morris, senior vice president of private brands, food and consumer goods at Walmart, said in the media release.
