Sheffield United took the lead twice through Jayden Bogle and Ben Brereton Diaz after Harry Maguire had equalized in the first half.
Bruno Fernandes then scored a penalty and a brilliant strike from distance to make it 3–2 before United’s Portuguese talisman set up Rasmus Hjolund for the decider, after which both teams continued to create chances for their opponents. Made mistakes.
The win took Eric ten Hag’s side to 53 points on the season and moved up to sixth in the Premier League table with five games remaining. Sheffield United remain at the bottom of the Premier League table with 16 points and are 10 points safe with four games remaining. The Blades also set a new Premier League record for most goals conceded in a 38-game season, as they have now scored 92 goals.
Bruno Fernandes is in a good mood
Manchester United playmaker Bruno Fernandes has now scored seven goals in his last five games for the Red Devils. He is in his mood. Good ones. Very good ones. Fernandes scored a brilliant goal to make the score 3–2 and then put Hjölund in a decisive position with amazing individual skill. On his day, few could match Fernandes’ quality on the ball. He was furious after United’s shock collapse to win against Coventry City on penalty kicks. Fernandes never shied away from the media or his responsibilities as United captain, no matter how difficult the situation, and even if some United legends did not agree with his behavior on the pitch during games, Bruno Fernandes cares a lot about United. Even in a currently struggling team that has given up too many chances to make up for Sheffield United’s poor performance, as they have done in every single game since the turn of the year, Fernandes is coming up in the big moments. He stood up whenever United needed him and his tally of 79 goals in 229 matches equates to 1 goal every 2.89 games. Fernandes has shown remarkable consistency over the last five seasons and if United finish in the top six and somehow beat Manchester City to win the FA Cup, you can bet that Bruno Fernandes was an influential figure in making it happen.

It was a very strange game with a lot of defensive mistakes from both teams but there was too much quality in attack for Manchester United (and Bruno Fernandes) to secure the victory. It wasn’t pretty but it puts them in sixth place.

Manchester United lead for the first time today. Bruno Fernandes picked up the ball from 30 yards out and fired a beautiful shot into the corner. He now has 15 goals for the season and the United captain has scored seven goals in his last six Premier League games. Eric Ten Hag with little applause on the sidelines. He is not showing any real emotion but will clearly be very relieved after another poor performance.

Brereton Diaz almost puts the Blades up 3-2!
Oh, that was very close. The Chilean forward (who has been very lively throughout) is playing but well away from goal. His composed shot deflected off Maguire and missed Onana’s foot and looked to be going in… but the ball hit the outside of the post and went into a corner.
Penalty kick to Manchester United! Fernandes scores – Manchester United 2-2 Sheffield United (61st minute)

Andre Onana made a mistake at the other end and Bogle made him pay, but Maguire fired home to set up a frantic end to the half as Man United should have been ahead at the break. They are not and there are plenty of murmurs of discontent at Old Trafford. Big 45 minutes for Eric Ten Hag
Hjolund gets twice as close
Rasmus Hjolund should put Manchester United ahead. First a long kick forward from Onana is thrown to Hjolund and he gets it clean through but Foderingham, again, is on hand to make the save. He then gets on the end of a cross at the near post, but Sheffield United block his effort and clear the way for a corner, which goes to no avail.

Bogle gives Blades lead – Manchester United 0-1 Sheffield United (37th minute)
What a shock we have here. After Onana delivered the ball and Sheffield United made the most of it as Bogle raced across goal and scored to silence Old Trafford. Well, apart from a few thousand Sheffield United fans in the away half it’s pretty quiet. Manchester United are losing to rock bottom Sheffield United at home.
