Dear Editor,
I just Googled to see if there was any update on the South Mole opening and read your thoughts on it.
It looked fine but I think it lacked politeness. Community buses have been taking senior citizens for walks on the Mall for many years, although for some time they have not been able to find a place to stop.
I’ve personally been going there for many years to have some quiet time to think or read a book or just to show visitors to Perth what a beautiful environment it is.
Finding a parking spot is again becoming difficult on weekdays. The University of Notre Dame should provide parking for its students and not leave them to monopolize public parking around the South Mole area.
Freo is sorely lacking in terms of catering to tourists, but I won’t be put off now. The South Mole Walk attracts many tourists. I used to go there several times a week and can confirm this.
Preventing cars from going there would reduce access for many seniors as finding parking in Freo would be very difficult and expensive, and mobility is often an issue.
Fremantle is hampered by its lack and cost of parking.
With regard to campers using this to avoid paying at camping facilities, why don’t the port authorities open the gates at 7.30am and close them at 10pm, given that there is still parking on the mole?
