MORGANTON, N.C. (Queen City News) – Across the Johns River from Charlotte and in the shadow of Grandfather and Table Rock Mountains is this privately owned farm with rolling hills punctuated by the popular arcade game called Whack-A. -mole.
Listing agent Julie Breedlove said, “I didn’t know about the whole Whack-a-Mole connection, and to be honest, I was a kid when Whack-a-Mole came out.” “He mentioned it, and I was like, ‘Okay, yeah. Whatever.’ And then all of a sudden, I mentioned it to someone else, and someone said, ‘Oh my God, what a great story!’
Joyce and Bob Cassata created the Whack-a-Mole and manufactured it at their facility in Florida for years.
“It’s called Bob’s Space Racers, and they’re the largest arcade amusement game manufacturer in the world,” Breedlove said.
Truth be told, what the family did is Whack-a-Mole. Horses are what they love.
“People looking for a horse farm aren’t going to find it on Zillow or Realtor.com,” Breedlove said.
Julie Breedlove is the listing agent for their 211-acre estate called Double C Acres between Lenoir and Morganton.
“Double C Acres has these horses, specifically the American Paint Horse and the American Quarter Horse,” Breedlove said. “And, again, they have over 100 world champions,” she continued. “Two of the mares he has produced are the winningest mares in the history of the American Quarter Horse and American Paint Horse Associations.”
Over the years, his horses have earned 70 American Paint Horse Association titles and 32 American Quarter Horse Association titles. The family has bred some of the top horses of all time in their categories. Think of it as creating a Tom Brady or Michael Jordan in your industry.
They were all raised at Double C Acres, a property designed with horses in mind with the highest quality equipment in the industry.
“Each stall also has an external door, Lucas Equine Equipment, designed for cross ventilation and horse health. All the stalls have stall mats, they all have automatic waterers,” Breedlove said.
The riding complex consists of a 21-stall barn with 2 foaling stalls and an additional 11 stalls in an adjacent field. 70 acres of fenced pastures give the horses plenty of room to roam. The barn has its own office that displays the trophies they have earned, and there are two modest houses on site.
“If you’re a horse person and go horseback riding, you’re spending all your time outside,” Breedlove said, “so typically, you wouldn’t see a mansion on a property like this.”
Many of these features will probably only be appreciated by horsemen such as cement-filled cinder blocks, applied with rebar if horses give it a kick. But this property is perfect for those who enjoy the outdoors with miles of trails, wildlife to hunt, 1,600 feet of riverbank, and breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

“They’ve hosted a lot of weddings here,” Breedlove said. “It is a beautiful facility for weddings with the mountains and pastures in the background. People like to have their weddings where there are horses and fences in the background,” he said. The family has moved their horse breeding business to Texas, and they’re hoping the next owner of Double C Acres will enjoy it as much as they have for decades.
“He’s done so much to this barn that if you look at it, and when you look at it, you’ll be amazed that it’s actually over 25 years old,” Breedlove said.
The property is listed for $5.6 million. Breedlove says he already has a few interested parties.
