The Purdue University Northwest (PNW) Mathematics and Statistics Club student organization recently helped share the joy of mathematics with the campus community by hosting an International Mathematics Day celebration.
International Mathematics Day helps celebrate the achievements of mathematicians throughout history and inspire new generations of problem-solvers. The student organization facilitated practical and engaging activities to share the passion for mathematics and its importance in people’s daily lives. Activities included math puzzles, trivia, calculus with Kahoot, card games, probability bingo and more. More than 100 students, faculty and staff participated.
“We were thrilled to celebrate International Mathematics Day and showcase the beauty and relevance of mathematics and statistics to our community,” said Gaurisri Jutiga, PNW Mathematics and Statistics Club President.
“The PNW Mathematics and Statistics Club had an extraordinary celebration of International Mathematics Day,” said Nicoletta Tarfulia, chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and interim chair of the Department of Mechanical and Civil Engineering. “In recognition of the global importance of mathematics and its vital role in shaping our world, the Club designed a program with captivating activities aimed at inculcating a deep appreciation for the aesthetic and practical applications of mathematics and statistics. We express our heartfelt gratitude to all participants for their enthusiasm and commitment to celebrating the beauty and importance of mathematics.
The Mathematics and Statistics Club of PNW was established in 2022 and actively organizes various activities, including guest talk series and movie nights by alumni and students. Club members aim to inspire a passion for mathematics and statistics.
