The Reds dominated the Red Devils in the first half, blocking all 15 shot attempts in the game. He led through a slippery finish from Luis Diaz and the match only seemed to be going in one direction.
But Bruno Fernandes and Kobi Manu scored in the first 21 minutes of a much-improved second half and Mohamed Salah could manage a penalty to help Liverpool lose a point for only the third time in 2024 (defeat to Arsenal, draw with Man City).

It has been easy for leaders Liverpool of late, with only one draw and one defeat in their last 12 matches in all competitions, but they have now fallen behind Arsenal in the tiebreaker in the Premier League table. Both have 71 points, one more than Manchester City.
Eric ten Hag will feel little relief after the Red Devils 1-1 draw with Brentford last saturday and after Defeat Chelsea 4-3 on Thursday. Man United’s 49 points place them in sixth, eight points off fifth and 11 points outside the top four.
Youthful mistakes, poor finishing hold Liverpool back
The game could have ended before half-time due to Manchester United’s poor home performance. In fact, the Red Devils were trailed 1–0 off the pitch, with the Old Trafford faithful well aware that the score line was lucky given the performance.
Jurgen Klopp’s attack was lively, but could only score one goal, as Andre Onana made several saves in a 45-minute period that saw the Reds concede 15 shots and 1.66 expected goals, compared to 0 and 0.00 for the weak Red Devils.
Klopp has been able to overcome his injuries because his finishers are doing their job very well. There was an own goal from young defender Connor Bradley last time out but the Reds scored three times to beat Sheffield United. This time, it was a terrible decision from young Jarrel Quansah and Caominh Kelleher’s inability to secure a bail for his fellow young back that dashed the Red Devils’ hopes.
These mistakes are always going to happen, as Klopp has relied on young players as the players in front of him while the inexperienced Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez sit on the bench. The philosophy gave them first place in the table, but that didn’t help on Sunday.
Red Devils beat rivals, no closer to knowing their future
Manchester United deserve credit for performing well after an embarrassing first half, but how can a team make such a poor start at home against its rival just days after an embarrassing defeat to another rival?
Can we really say we have any clue whether United have real hope for their future with Eric ten Hag?
The goals were very good but two players scored in individual moments that have already been fantastic for the club over the years or even a single season. Bruno Fernandes has been a key man for United, while Kobi Manu has been a teenage godsend. Diogo Delot and Casemiro were also good, but again, nothing new there.
The Red Devils are likely to return to the Europa League and reach the FA Cup final. Will one or both of these things convince INEOS Group that Ten Hague deserves to start another season at the top?

A six-save day for Andre Onana played no small part in the point, while Casemiro and Kobi Manu were superb and gave Bruno Fernandes the freedom to make the center of the park an advantage for the Red Devils. Liverpool would attribute this foul to Quinsah’s mistake and Kelleher’s unfortunate positioning, as well as the only goal in an impressive first half.
What will happen next?

Sofiane Amrabat replaces Garnacho, and Bruno Fernandes moves to the wing as Eric ten Hag looks to wrap up a relatively tame win.
Kobe Menu! Manchester United 2-1 Liverpool (67th minute)
What a wonder the child is. What intelligence readiness,
Garnacho dribbles inside and plays a shot to Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who catches Manu with his back to goal.
However, Mainu knows where he is, and turns around to fire a pearl inside the far post. Kelleher cannot react in time.
2-1 United! What a twist this story took!
Manu’s screamer puts Man Utd ahead against Liverpool
Kobi Manu sent Old Trafford into frenzy with a beautiful curling effort to give Manchester United a 2-1 lead against Liverpool at Old Trafford.
subscription for both
Manchester United removed Marcus Rashford for Antony, while Liverpool brought on Curtis Jones and Joe Gomez for Dominik Szoboszlai and Connor Bradley.
There’s probably only one move that makes obvious sense – Gomez for Bradley – so let’s see how that plays out.
Liverpool failed to finish the break
It’s a lightning-quick counter-attack but Darwin Nunez gets the final ball wrong.
Neither shooting nor knocking it back to an open Dominik Szoboszlai, Nunes passed the ball through the six where it’s absent receiver.
There is a lot of discussion going on at Old Trafford.
What a mistake, and what a blow! Manchester United 1-1 Liverpool (50th minute)
Jerel Quansah played a terrific ball into the middle of the pitch and Bruno Fernandes forced Caoimhne Kelleher off his line.
And thus the dominating team restores the level playing field at home.
Very good.
Fernandes dismissed Kelleher from midfield.
Jerel Quansah’s lapse in concentration resulted in a brilliant goal from Bruno Fernandes, where the Manchester United captain headed home Caomhin Kelleher from near the halfway line to make the score 1–1 against Liverpool.
Halftime – Manchester United 0-1 Liverpool
Man United look terrible. Liverpool are good too, but Man United…oops! This is the story.
The Red Devils don’t have a single shot attempted and have conceded 15 to Liverpool, four of which have reached Andre Onana’s frame.
Liverpool have taken eight corner kicks compared to United’s three. Rasmus Hjolund and Alejandro Garnacho have combined for 23 touches.
United have had some luck with Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Aaron Wan-Bissaka on the left, but it has been minimal compared to the constant threat of Salah, Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz.
And Liverpool are having a field day with Willie Kambwala, Kobi Manu, Garnacho on the left and United’s relatively ancient 25-year-old Diogo Dalot on the right.
Onana makes another save
The Manchester United keeper moves to his right and denies Mohamed Salah but concedes a corner kick.
He helps to deny the danger from the set piece, then flies to his right and will be lucky to have Darwin Nunez miss a sensational curler.
Liverpool want to get this sorted as quickly as possible.
Liverpool goal – Luis Diaz! Manchester United 0-1 Liverpool (23rd minute)
It’s a set piece, and it’s a brilliant flick from Darwin Nunez that sets up a goal.
Luis Diaz is at the back post and gets the ball down to make it 1-0.
Diaz scored in front of Liverpool as Liverpool lost 1-0
Liverpool broke the deadlock as Luis Diaz found the back of the net from a Reds corner to give his team an early 1-0 lead over Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Fast start includes offside goal, Onana save
It takes 200 seconds to start!
Alejandro Garnacho makes a great run but his pass is sent off a second too late, and his goal pass to Kelleher is ruled out by a flag to concede a potential opener.
Liverpool go back the other way and Andre Onana has to make a great save on the left on Darwin Nunez to keep it scoreless.
Nearing Kickoff!
There’s a lot to like about the lineup, and given two inexperienced and/or substandard back lines, it should be a day of opportunities.
There is youth on both sides with Kambwala and Manu for Man Utd and Kwansa and Bradley for Liverpool. And we know both of these clubs have intense attacking talent.
On the evidence of this season, you would like Liverpool to feast more on United but Garnacho is in great form and Rashford knows this rivalry. He has scored seven goals in 17 matches against the Reds, including three goals in their last four home matches. one of them? The equalizing goal in the 112th minute in last month’s FA Cup quarterfinal win.
