Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida – Former University of Texas star Scottie Scheffler shot an 8-under 64 in the final round to capture a one-shot victory at The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass on Sunday. The victory marked the 100th official PGA Tour victory for the University of Texas men’s golf program, accomplished by 17 different individuals in the tour’s 98-year history.
It is the second consecutive week that Scheffler has won on the PGA Tour, as he captured the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill in Orlando last week. This is his second PGA Tour win during the 2024 calendar year and the eighth overall of his career. All eight of his wins have come during the last 26 months. In seven starts this season, Scheffler has recorded six top-10 performances and has finished no worse than 17th.
The world No. 1 player, Scheffler became the first back-to-back winners in the 50-year history of The Players Championship. Scheffler recorded a 72-hole score of 20-under 268 (67-69-68-64) and defeated a trio of 19-under individuals including Brian Harmon, Xander Schauffele and Windham Clark.
Scheffler started the day at 12-under, five shots behind 54-hole leader Schauffele and tied for sixth place. Scheffler holed out for eagle on the par-four No. 4 and then made birdies on Nos. 5, 8, 9, 11 and 12 to catch Schauffele. He made the last birdie on number 16 and reached 20-under.
