Actress and director Amy Schumer has responded to online comments speculating on the appearance of her face, pointing out that it is “more puffy than usual” due to endometriosis.
Schumer appeared on US TV to talk about season two of Life & Beth, the series she writes, directs and stars in.
He then faced jokes making fun of his face, as well as medical speculation and supportive comments.
“I have enjoyed the feedback and discussions about my appearance,” she said.
The actress, who was apparently semi-serious in tone, added to instagram She has faced interest in her appearance “as all women do for about 20 years”.
“Thank you so much for everyone’s input about my face! And you’re right it’s more puffy than usual right now. I have endometriosis, an auto-immune disease that every woman should read about.
“There are some medical and hormonal things going on in my world right now but I’m doing okay.”
One woman tweeted in support of Schumer’s situation, writing: “Endometriosis is no joke. I looked like I had my entire face filled with fillers. I was unrecognizable. My entire body was swollen And was swollen. I’m no fan of Amy Schumer but can we please stop shaming women and their bodies.”
Another said: “Before you post about what Amy Schumer’s face looks like, did you take a moment to ask yourself why you care what Amy Schumer’s face looks like?”
Schumer said in her post that “women’s bodies have historically been less studied medically than men’s”, adding that “a woman needs no excuses for her physical appearance and Nor does any explanation need to be made”.
