Pederson called the defeat “a humbling experience.”
“Nobody wants to go out and coach like this,” Pederson said. “Nobody wants to go out and play like that. Nobody wants to go out and lose like that. Too much pride, you know?”
The Jaguars’ three points were their fewest at home since a 20–0 loss to the Tennessee Titans in Week 14 of the 2021 season and their fewest points at home since a 27–3 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 11 of 2020. He had four turnovers, a season high and most since last season’s Week 4 loss at Philadelphia.
It was the Jaguars’ most lopsided home loss since a 45–15 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 14 2019 and their worst overall loss since a 50–10 loss to the New England Patriots in New England in Week 17 2021 .
“We played very bad across the board, including me,” Lawrence said. “That’s the reality of it. We’ll watch the tape tomorrow and relive it, which will be very interesting, and then we’ll move on.”
San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy capped the 49ers’ first drive of the game by throwing a touchdown pass to wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk for an early lead, and Purdy’s deep touchdown pass to George Kittle opened the third quarter with a seventeen-point San Francisco lead. . ,
The 49ers led 10–0 after two drives, at which point the Jaguars did not have a first down.
“I thought the team was prepared,” Pederson said. “We failed to execute early drives defensively and we failed to execute early drives offensively. That’s the part that’s disappointing because these guys were ready to go.
“As we had early in the football game, having a lack of execution, it kind of snowballed from there.”
Purdy completed 19 of 26 passes for 296 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. Kittle caught three passes for 116 yards and a touchdown.
The 49ers defeated the Jaguars 437–221, with wide receiver Deebo Samuel adding a reverse for a touchdown late in the third quarter.
Entering the game the Jaguars did not force a turnover, leading the NFL with 18. They are 0-2 this season without forcing a turnover, and Oluokun recorded a team-high two sacks.
“That’s not the type of football team we want to build right there, so let’s start fighting,” Oluokun said. “Let’s start working on getting better. We have a good opponent coming up next week (the Tennessee Titans of the AFC South). I’m ready to work.”
