Singer Michael Bolton revealed he was diagnosed with a brain tumor just before the holidays and had to undergo immediate surgery.
He said in a post on social media that the surgery was successful and he is recovering at home with his family.
Bolton, who is 70, said in the post that he would “dedicate my time and energy to my recovery, which means I will have to take a temporary break from touring.”
He said that disappointing his fans is “always the hardest thing”, “but there is no doubt that I am working hard to speed up my recovery and perform again soon.”
Bolton said he would provide updates on the situation whenever possible.
“I am so grateful for all the love and support you have given me over the years,” Bolton wrote. “Know that I am keeping your positive messages in my heart.”
Bolton rose to fame in the rock music scene of the 1970s and as a pop singer in the ’80s and ’90s, working with artists such as Cher, Bob Dylan and Shania Twain during her decades-long career.
Bolton wrote “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You?” Won a Grammy Award for. which he co-wrote, and his cover of “When a Man Loves a Woman”, which appeared on his 1991 chart-topping album “Time, Love & Tenderness”.
He is also a well-known philanthropist, having launched The Michael Bolton Charities in 1993, which supports women and children victims of poverty and emotional, physical and sexual abuse. She has participated in several programs to support children and victims of domestic violence.
