San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw was ejected from Sunday’s game against Philadelphia after being called a personal foul during a scuffle with an Eagles employee.
With about nine and a half minutes left in the third quarter, Greenlaw tackled Eagles receiver DeVonta Smith near the Birds’ sideline, lifting Smith above the waist and throwing him to the ground.
The referee threw a flag against Greenlaw for a tackle.
As soon as the pair regained strength, Eagles players and staff members rushed, ended in a brief scuffle With some 49ers players.
The Eagles’ head of security, Dom DeSandro, appeared to push Greenlaw away from Smith to separate him.
Greenlaw then raised his hand and shouted at DeSandro while pointing. His hand appeared to hit DeSandro in the face, causing the referee to eject Greenlaw from the game.
Once the decision was made, Greenlaw ran off the field toward the locker room and Eagles fans in the stands began booing.
49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was later seen yelling at officials over the decision to remove Greenlaw.
DeSandro was also ejected from the game, but received a standing ovation from the Phillie fans at Lincoln Financial Field, as well as a pat on the back from members of the coaching staff.
Shortly afterward, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts walked off the field after being slow to get up from the game. He was evaluated for injury but later returned to the game.
The 49ers won 42–19.
